Salad Decorations with monsoon theme :
We had a party at our house and I decided to make an attractive salad decoration....something like they do in hotels. So I tried my hand at some things like flowers made of cucumber, potato, spring onions. There are really simple tricks to achieve this but yes, one thing that is essential is lot of time and patience. You also need vegetables of good quality and a special knife to manage the special cuts that you can see below (especially for the flowers).
Couple Holding umbrellas - Made of Capsicum, Spring Onion Since it was raining outside, I made these going with the monsoon theme. Capsicum is the obvious choice for umbrellas and they are supported by toothpicks from inside. The faces are made of spring onions (watch the tiny pony on the head of the female) Aren't they looking cute ?
Cucumber and Potato FlowersIts hard to recognize that the red flowers are made from potato. These are thin slices of potato colored with an edible red color. They are assembled together with a toothpick. Cucumber flowers are made by making 2 layers of cuts with the special salad knife. Cutting the outer layer which separates out the covering of the cucumber from the inside part is very crucial and requires practise.
Spring Onion FlowersI gave long vertical cuts to the spring Onions and soaked them in water for some time. After that, they literally bloomed like flowers. I used a heart shaped glass dish to arrange the flowers and also used the lower green portion of the onions to get an overall effect like this snap.
Floral BouquetIn the evening after the party, some of the stuff started decaying but after all the work I had done, it was difficult to just throw it away like that. So, I just seperated the bad stuff and rearranged the rest of the flowers to make it look like a bouquet. One of my friends liked this rearranged thing more than the original stuff.
